Big Ideas. Great Results.

Design Process
Compare vs Contrast

When comparing our designs, we saw that a huge theme was keeping our audience engaged. Using the different perspectives, we wanted to create designs that would allow the user to benefit from using our website/app rather than become distracted while using them. For example, using an ecological perspective, we were able to design a notification that lets users know when the gym is least crowded. Comparing that to the other designs, it can be seen that interaction with the features of our site/app are key components. When contrasting our designs, we saw that different designs used different interfaces to portray gym related information. For example, from an interactive perspective, we designed an interface that catered towards an individual’s own performance at the gym and their key stats from their workout

Our Personas
Rachel is a senior CCJS student who lives in Commons. She is always trying to stay in good shape, but she cannot stop herself from eating desserts. Eventually, she chooses to go to Ritchie three times a week for aerobic exercise. She mostly uses cardio machines and open workout like yoga to lose weight. She does not want to have too much muscle, so she never does weight and only spends about 45 minutes each time. She’s facing a problem that cardio machines are sometimes full when she arrives at the Ritchie and she has to walk all the way back to her dorm which is a waste of time.
Ideation Process
As we continue to design our application and interfaces, it is important that we remember to stay consistent with the design ideas we brainstormed. It is necessary to implement a conceptual design which includes emotional and interaction perspective. The requirements that will be difficult to realize would be initializing a way to update our application members on how busy the gym that they want to attend is. It will be enjoyable to implement a system that allows us to update the count based on swipes of the gym, however, it will be difficult in updating our application to the real time statistics. The tradeoffs that we are exploring are whether we want to send notifications to users or not. It could be helpful for a user to see every morning what time the gym is usually empty that day so he or she could schedule their day around that, but oftentimes people don’t like getting too many notifications.
